How stacked discounts work
An extra discount applies to the already-reduced price, so 30% off plus another 20% off is not 50% off. The price becomes 70% × 80% = 56% of the original, a 44% total discount.
Sale price = Price × (1 − D1) × (1 − D2)
Frequently asked questions
Is tax charged on the original price or the sale price?
In most cases, sales tax applies to the price you actually pay after store discounts. Manufacturer coupons can be treated differently in some states.
How do I find the percent off from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. Use the percent change box on the percentage calculator.
